Anyone familiar with Randall Brothers of Holgate, OH? They seem to have an awful lot of tractors and I'm looking. Looks like a jockey outfit to me.

NW Ohio

I think you are correct. I stopped by once and really wasn't that impressed. They do however seem to do alot of business.

I bought a CIH9170 4wd at a pretty reasonable price. I think they buy at dealer auctions. They didn't represent the tractor as good or bad except that the paint was rough, but the tires were good (24.5x32 bias rice tires).

I was able to get some history on the tractor and the previous non-dealer owner said he bought it from down south, ran it 8 hours and the motor stuck so they rebuilt it along with the front axle. I had head gasket problems - installed new gaskets and later it was pumping out oil all over the place (I thought we missed something when we installed the new head gaskets). I got a deal on another 'rebuilt' engine and swapped the engine out this spring rather than figure out the original. I later sold the first engine and later got a call from the engine buyer that it hadn't been rebuilt and the oil was being pumped out because of lots of broken rings. I refunded some money back to make it core price. I do think the from the markings on the front axle that it had work done on it - what work I don't know. I said all that to say Randall bros prices things decent, but it's possible they have little history on the machines and machines take some pretty convoluted paths to their lot. I probably should have gone for the older versatile in mint shape for the same price. As it is now I'm a paint job and interior kit away from a very nice machine (well maybe 8 radial tires, an expensive seat, nicer radio away). I'm not sure you can ever guarantee nothing will go wrong, but when a tractor has a little trouble finding a home there is usually a reason.

thanks,

Pat

SE Michigan

Went there a few years back. They told me they buy allot of dealer "off color" trades. Seemed honest to me, I think they don't represent anything that they are not sure of. Funny quote from the owner when I asked about a "rough" looking combine..........Told me "seen the good looking stuff be really bad and the ugly stuff turn out really good"

custar ohio

I know them well. Lee and his sons Rob, Scott, and Ryan. They farm big and jockey big. They are straight foward. There are no guarentees. I have bought new and used stuff there. It is buyer beware. They ask a price, you look the machine over and decide if it is fair. If not,go home. My neighbor bought a MX240 there that was a POS and they treated him very fairly. You can get some good buys there if you know your stuff.
